Dear Desperate

I grew up in Detroit and when I was younger I would occationally take spur of the moment trips with friends to places like Chicago or Buffalo or Kentucky. That said, I wonder about W's contention that the evil doers (or whatever he is calling his foes in Iraq these days) will follow us back to America if we leave too soon. If I hated American presence in Iraq and I lived in Syria or Lebanon or Yemen or Saudi and a couple of buddies of mine said, "hey lets go to Iraq and shoot at Americans this weekend," would that necessarily translate into me saying, "hey the Americans have left the neighborhood so lets follow them to the States and kill them there?"

All the real fighting is between sects and clans that are indigenous to Iraq and they didn't want to come to America before and if we left they will be too busy fighting each other to bother coming to America. They have a lot of killing each other to catch up on at home to take the time to go on a road trip.

This fear morgering has become so transparent and even distasteful lately. It seems whenever there is perceived vulnerability this administration goes to the Rove playbook of Fear. Change a couple of words here and there, talk a little louder, go boogie oogie boogie and poof.....We have a whole new approach to why we are better than those pansy ass defeatist Democrats.

I'm not buying it. Besides, let us not forget what Bin Laden's main gripe was, get out of Saudi Arabia. Remember? That is what he wanted and if you do remember that is what W did. Also, indulge me, don't forget about the hundreds of millions we spent building permanent bases in Saudi that we abandoned and took our ball and moved to the Gulf states. W has already caved to the demands of the #1 terrorist. Why would us coming home provoke someone not interested in going too far from home follow us back here?

But you cannot blame W and his brain from using the Fear factor in their calculus for not loosing control of the Congress. The big F has worked for so long and so well why would they think it won't this time. Apparently, they have no new ideas and even an old tired but proven one that makes ones eyes role is the only one they can think of hey, take a shot. Its the only one they have and they are desperate.
